Summer Reading: Drop and give me 15

My kids get summer homework.

It's true. Much to their dismay.

As a work-from-home parent, I have to put in office hours. Daily. No work. No paycheck. It's kind of how it works.

The morning is best for this, that way we can hit the pool in the afternoon once all the summer camps/daycares have vacated for the day.

Thus, in the morning, while I work - they work.

Zane has a Bridge Book in which he needs to do 1-2 pages each day. Plus a minimum of 15 minutes of reading.

Harper also has 15 minutes of reading, and will have some math tutoring/math worksheets.

Thing is, with the 15 minute expectation, I'm almost assured that they will read for longer. And that warms my heart.

Do they love it? No.

Do they hate it? No.

They simply do it. They also pick up the dog poop, unload the dishwasher, do their laundry (well, Harper), and clean their rooms. (Hmmm, kind of like during the rest of the year.)

It's just all part of how we roll.

Even during the summer.

Do your kids get homework over the summer months?

(Sometimes, I wish we had school year-round. Like those schools that take 3 week breaks in between quarters, but run all year. I just think our kids would have better retention skills with that format rather than getting almost 3 months of a break all at once.)
