With young kids, we are now starting new traditions. We have gone to Soergels Farm in Wexford. We've taken our boys to pick their own pumpkins, see the apple cider press working, sample lots of apple cider, and they have lots of kids activities on the weekends, hay ride, pony rides, etc. That is a lot of fun.
I love Halloween, and my neighbor throws a big party for the kids. She sets up "stations" around her house, with different activities. Last year, I dressed up as a mad scientist and they made drinkable green slime at my station. There was also bowling, using a pumpkin as the bowling ball. This year, I may do edible play dough. They do a little parade up the street, and one of the older neighbors judges the costumes. Although some of the kids are now entering their teen years and can't decide whether they are too cool to do this anymore or not, they are still tempted back. It's just too much fun, for everyone.
And I make lots of food -- pumpkin chocolate chip muffins is a recipe I pull out every year, and I like to have my boys help me. Soups, etc. Fall is my favorite!
